What About Supporting Missions?

What About Supporting Missions?

Not too long ago, I was reminded of a question that church people sometimes ask: “What does our church do to support missions?” I want to answer this question in two ways. First, I want to answer the spirit of the question. That is, I will give the answer that the question-asker is looking for. But secondly, I want to answer the question a little more literally.

The point of this article is to let you know that Don Frank is moving and has resigned as elder at Good News Church. The elders have chosen Bruce Hawk as their nominee to fill his position. So, let me fill you in on the details by answering a few questions.

Several weeks ago, I wrote a letter to some friends of mine who had recently become Christians. The purpose of the letter was that I wanted to put into writing some of the basic practices within Christianity for them. Basically, it was an attempt to answer the question, “Ok, I’m a Christian. Now what?” Well, after I wrote the letter, I thought to myself, “Maybe these things would be good for lots of people at Good News to hear” instead of limiting the message to just the few people I sent it to.
Introducing Our New Director of Congregational Care: Bruce Hawk
As many of you know, one of our elders, Gary Haverdink is also a volunteer staff member at our church. His title is “Director of Ministries and Operations.” Gary uses his leadership gifts to organize the volunteer ministries here and he helps make sure that the church, as an organization, runs smoothly. To be honest, without him, we wouldn’t have as many good community groups as we have now, we would probably be lacking for volunteers, and our drinking water might be hazardous to our health (yes, among other things, Gary makes sure we always have a up-to date water testing and permitting.) I am very grateful that God has blessed us with him, to do lots of things that I don’t do or don’t do well.

I am going to suggest something for you to do during the Sunday morning service at church that I believe will be good for you and especially good for the body of Christ and the mission of Christ. Some of you who are antisocial probably won’t do it no matter how much I beg. But, perhaps, many of you social types will consider this request.
