A KidZone "Family Chat"

April 20, 2022 Latara Arthur Volunteer, Organization, Discipleship

In our family, whenever we want to have a special chat about upcoming events or issues that need to be discussed, we hold a family chat. Well, because there are so many of you, it will be physically challenging to hold an in-person family chat. But if you will, please consider this article a “family chat.”

Over the last few weeks in KidZone, we had a few key volunteers step back for various personal reasons, ranging from medical reasons to needing time to deal with personal concerns. This led to us having a deficit in our volunteer pool; ergo we have too many classes but not enough teachers. To offset this loss and regroup, beginning this Sunday (April 24th), we will suspend our 4-5th grade upper elementary class for the months of May and June. This allows us time to recruit and train volunteers. If we cannot meet our need, we may have to extend the suspension, until our need is met. I am praying that this will not be the case and many of you will sign up to help teach one of our classes, once a month.

Here’s a thought to consider – Whenever you’re a part of a household, there are routine jobs and activities that are just a normal part of being in a family. If you consider Good News your church “household,” then there will be jobs you will do, not necessarily because you love to do it, but because it helps take care of the household. This benefits the overall house. Sometimes there are seasons where we must pick up the slack, or fill in the gaps, for other family members when they are sick, have a baby, or may have fallen into a busier schedule. My hope is that some of you may consider jumping in to help fill in the gap, or pick up the slack.  There are some, I’m sure, who may not necessarily feel called to children’s ministry but you love teaching.

I pray you will consider volunteering. Why? Because there are vacant jobs that need to be done in the Good News household, which your gifts are suited for, and by doing them it will benefit the overall house of God.

I do realize that not all of you can be teachers, but in a church with over 500 people, I am sure God has supplied us with enough teachers to ensure that we can continue the mission of passing down the gospel to the next generation. If that’s you, please reach out to me.

I leave you with these verses:
One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.Psalm 145:4
Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you.Deuteronomy 32:7
And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.Judges 2:10
Sharing our faith with the next generation is not the responsibility of one person but ALL who are in the household of God.
