When You Do the Math: Once-a-Week is about Four-times-per-month!

Would you be willing to help out with our KidZone ministry on a weekly basis?

Please notice that I said, “on a weekly basis.” That is different than simply helping out in KidZone. While we certainly accept the help that people offer us, even if it is something more like once-per-month, the purpose of this article is to get some of you (maybe some single people, some newly married people, some empty-nesters?) to help us out on a more regular basis.

You see, we certainly understand that some people (specifically parents who have young children attending our KidZone program) have a difficult time volunteering every week, because it would mean that they would either: a) never get to attend big church or b) their kids would have to attend the same KidZone classes two times in a row every Sunday.

For that reason, we understand why so many parents of kids 5th grade and under can only volunteer once or twice per month. However, if all of our volunteers were to fall into that category, we would sure need to have a lot of them!

Here’s the math:
  • Six classrooms
  • x two adults (typically one teacher & one assistant)
  • x two church services (9:15 & 11:00)
  • = 24 KidZone workers needed each week.
However, most of our current volunteers do not volunteer weekly. So, if you have teachers helping out monthly, that would mean:
  • 24 teachers
  • x about 4 weeks per month
  • = 96 KidZone workers needed each month!
Holy Bible! That’s a lot of teachers. I mean, that’s about ¼ of all the adults in the entire church!  However, every adult that is willing to help out on a weekly basis – is basically someone who is willing to be four people! What an accomplishment. I bet there are lots of you who’ve never been four people before. Now’s your chance.

That’s why I would like to ask if there are any of you (perhaps some people who don’t have young children 5th grade and under) who would be willing to attend one of our church services each Sunday, and volunteer during the other service.

I know that may sound like a lot, but I know it’s possible. When I was a kid back in the 1980’s, most churches had a program called “Sunday School” and it involved having the same church members showing up and teaching the same class each week. If it was possible then, surely it’s possible now. In fact, there are all sorts of worthwhile activities that require a once-per-week commitment.

So, if you are someone who believes in the mission of Good News Church (and I feel like I’ve met a lot of you lately who might say that!) would you please consider helping us in this way?
