The Future of Good News Church

August 25, 2011 Mario Villella

“Is Good News Church going to be simply a Sunday morning service, or will we be a full-service church one day?”

The official answer is: Neither. Let me explain.

First of all, the long-term goal is for us to be more than just a Sunday morning service. This is because our vision includes loving God, loving each other, and loving people who don’t know God yet, and we think that pulling that off will require more than a once-a-week meeting. For example, in order to “love each other” well, we will probably need some sort of smaller-sized groups for people to get to know each other better in the future. This is one of the things we are going to be praying about over the next several months.

However, we also value simplicity. This means that we do not intend on being some sort of religious buffet with 29 different options to please every taste and meet every need. As our church grows, we will have lots and lots of preferences, good ideas, and potential directions to go in. The only problem with that is that it is very difficult to do lots of things excellently at the same time. So, our long-range plan is to be a “simple church” that chooses a few things to do, and then does those things really well.

We are excited about the future. I hope that this starts to give you a good picture of where we are headed, and that you will become as excited as I am about the kind of church we are aiming to be!
