If we keep growing, will Good News be expanding our building or building some other building some day? The answer to that question is, "If the Lord wills, then, yes." We've got about 50 extra people coming this year over last year. If this trend continues (and it may not, we'll just have to wait and see what God has in store) we will need to do something to provide more church service space and KidZone space.
We've decided that we will not be expanding our current building because it would be cost-prohibitive to come into compliance with fire sprinkler codes for the current building. It would basically be lots of money to add not very many seats. But, one day, if we need to go to three services, we will probably also, around that same time, begin building a new building behind our current one. (Note: The church actually owns more land behind the current building than it does in front of it.) We could then double our children's ministry space, by dedicating much of the old building (our current one) to being KidZone space.
We've already been taking the initial steps to figure out what something like that would cost. You may have noticed those ribbons that were tied around some of our trees these past few months. Those are from a survey that we had done on our property. We've also talked with a contractor and an engineer about things like water & sewage, Marion County building codes, water retention requirements, etc.
We will keep you informed as things move along.
